Biography

Dr. Chan’s research focuses on advanced image reconstruction algorithms, corrections for respiratory motion, cardiac motion, and partial volume effects for emission tomography including whole body PET/CT and cardiac SPECT/CT imaging. The utility of PET and SPECT in practice is often limited by low spatial resolution, high level of statistical noise relative to signal, and organs movements due to the relatively long acquisition time. The aim of Dr Chan’s research is to correct for these effects to improve the quantification of physiological parameters and abnormality detectability in emission tomography. His works were awarded the Young Investigator Award (Honourable Mention) from the Computer and Instrumentation Council at the 53rd and 59th Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) annual meeting in 2006 and 2012, respectively. His work was also selected as the Editor’s Choice and Journal’s Highlights collection 2009 by Physics in Medicine and Biology.
